ACK Diocese Of Kirinyaga

Mission and Evangelism

Mission is not so much something we say but something we do. In Mathew 7:16, we are told,”by their fruits you will recognize them”. The fundamental characteristics of the mission and life of Christians is seen in James 2:14-25, which entreats us to be doers of the word .Faith without good deeds in useless. Mission therefore, is the way in which the church is sent out into the world to fulfill the great commission (Mathew 28:18-20).
Evangelism means to bring or to announce the good news .This entails dealing with very concrete needs of the people, hence evangelism is a process of concientization. It’s the liberation which lifts a person from a state of being inhuman to a state of being fully human, that is, holistic gospel according to John 10:10.Thus, evangelism is regarded as synonymous with the word mission but literary meaning preaching the gospel “and how shall they hear without a preacher? Yes, there must be a “preacher” The Missionary -and how shall thy preach except they are sent?”
Mission and Evangelism is the work of the whole church. It becomes vibrant when it is made a normal activity for all the church people all the time. On the contrary, it dims when it is considered as a special activity for special people at a special time. Mission and evangelism must be a regular part of the church program. No  follower of our savior can dismiss mission work as someone else’s duty. In this regard there are no closed seasons for fishers of men.
In this regard, Kirinyaga Diocese mission has always been a priority but operating under the Youth Department. In January 2016, mission became a department by itself whereby the Diocesan Bishop RT.REV JOSEPH KIBUCWA appointed full time Co-ordinator to run the department. In actual fact, the fundamental calling of the church is to evangelize and everything else is secondary.

BETHSAIDA CHURCH

  2. Built a larger mabati(iron sheet) church on the new plot.
  3. Constructed an improved toilet facility on the church grounds.

 OTHER ACHIEVEMENTS

  1. Inter-church mission work continues actively.
  2. Capacity-building workshops have been successfully organized both within and outside the parish.
  3. The parish has cleared all financial obligations to the Archdeaconry and Denary.
  4. Elections have been conducted successfully at all levels.
  5. All pastoral and preaching programs are running smoothly.

 CHALLENGES

  1. The entire parish lacks a lay reader, including retired ones, as well as an evangelist to assist with ministry duties.
  2. South Ngariama is an economically disadvantaged area, where children sometimes miss school due to financial constraints. This economic hardship also affects church activities.
  3. Heavy rains make roads impassable, hindering both ministry and daily business activities for residents.
  4. There is no access to clean drinking water or flowing streams for farming. This results in hunger and increases the prevalence of lifestyle-related diseases among church members.

 WAY FORWARD

  1. Continued capacity-building initiatives.
  2. Strengthening evangelism efforts to keep the fire of the gospel burning.
  3. Appealing to the Diocese and other stakeholders to continue supporting this mission area, as they have done in the past.

 IKURUNGU SUB-PARISH REPORT

The ACK Ikurungu Sub-Parish consists of four (4) congregations with a total of 77 Christians.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

 IKURUNGU CHURCH

  1. The church continues to grow and develop.
  2. The church floor has been cemented.
  3. Initial preparations for constructing a permanent church have begun.

 KIRATHIMO CHURCH

  2. It is housed in a semi-permanent structure with a cemented floor.

 NGOMANO CHURCH

  1. The church is experiencing significant growth.
  2. It is housed in a semi-permanent building with a cemented floor.
  3. Initial steps have been taken to construct a permanent church.

 CHALLENGES

  • The parish lacks an active lay reader and evangelist.
  • The road network in the area is poor, becoming impassable during the rainy season due to mud and flooding, which greatly hinders evangelism efforts.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE DEPARTMENT

  1. A total of 847 souls were won to Christ from our last mission day
  2. We successfully introduced deanery mission workshops, two-hour door-to-door evangelism, and open-air outreaches in the archdeaconries. This initiative has yielded great results, and we are now implementing the same approach at the deanery level.
  3. For the first time, we organized a brethren convention, bringing together members of the East African Revival movement alongside young people, who formed the majority. The goal was to foster spiritual growth and unity in Christ.

 CHALLENGES

  1. Managing the youthful participants during the brethren conference at Karoti High School proved to be challenging.
  2. Heavy rains during the Gichugu mega mission caused delays for the missionaries.
  3. The preparation for the Gichugu mega mission came with some difficulties. However, by God’s grace they were overcome and witnessed a fruitful mission.
  4. Evangelist from Mombasa resulting to salary centralization in near future.

APPRECIATION;

We are grateful to God Almighty for the opportunity to serve in Mission and Evangelism the core business of the church. We thank our bishop for his unwavering support, inspiration, encouragement and passion for mission and intercessory ministry.  We thank our guest speaker, all clergy, church workers and everyone who attended today to support the work of mission. May God bless you all.

CONCLUSION

According to our Diocesan theme 2025-2026 wholesome church brings revival taken from Ezekiel 47. Just as the river begins at the altar revival begins with prayer, worship and seeking God’s presence. Revival doesn’t stay confined to the church it spreads outwards impacting society hence the great commission go …..into the whole world.  Let us work diligently, united as one body in Christ, to fulfill the indicated great commission.

NB: The upcoming Archdeaconry outreach in Kiandangae is like a pivotal moment in this mission it marks the completion of the archdeaconry circle and we hope to end at a high gear with great harvest for Christ.
