A historic event unfolded on Kirinyaga Thiba ‘Island’ as Bishop Dr. Joseph Kibucwa presided over the consecration of ACK Kiathi Church in Kiambathi Parish. Positioned as the only church on the ‘island’, ACK Kiathi Church stands on a unique ground surrounded by Thiba Dam. Despite challenges, including the reclamation of much of its original land for dam construction, Kiambathi Parish and Kiathi Church remained resilient, witnessing a momentous consecration.
Sermon Inspiration from Psalm 43
The consecration service drew inspiration from Psalm 43, a poignant reflection on overcoming persistent challenges. Bishop Kibucwa invited the congregation to perceive Psalm 43 as an extension of Psalm 42, highlighting the individual’s triumphant journey from lamentation to victory. The psalmist’s success in overcoming prolonged issues was attributed to a few key factors:
- Seeking God’s Intervention: The individual knew where to take their problem – to God, emphasizing the significance of seeking divine intervention in times of need.
- Power of Fellowship: Acknowledging the value of others in worship, the psalmist understood the power of fellowship. This underscores the importance of community and shared worship experiences.
- Belief in God’s Active Involvement: The psalmist’s faith was grounded in the belief that God was actively working in their problem. This points to the assurance of God’s involvement in addressing our needs.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Amidst the consecration, the ceremony also witnessed the sacrament of confirmation for over 100 candidates. Rev. Bilha, the gracious host, played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this significant occasion.
Clergy Presence
The consecration ceremony was attended by clergy from Kabare Archdeaconry, led by Archdeacon Mary Muringo, contributing to the solemnity and spiritual significance of the event.
Presiding Bishop’s Encouragement
In his address, Presiding Bishop Dr. Joseph Kibucwa encouraged the Kiathi community to bring their problems and needs to the church in prayer. His words resonated with a message of hope and resilience.
The consecration of ACK Kiathi Church stands as a testament to unwavering faith and determination, marking a sacred moment in the history of Kirinyaga Island. As the church opens its doors, it becomes a beacon of spiritual refuge for the community it serves.
