OVC

O V C stands for orphans and vulnerable children.
Most of these children live in the streets as a result of various reasons e. g abandonment by their families, death of parents, separation of their parents, unresolved conflicts within families, poverty, etc.
Our Vision :
Empower children from underprivileged families for realization and fulfillment of life.
Our Mission :
To enable the underprivileged children to face life through provision of holistic education founded on Christian principles.
General Objective :
To rehabilitate children for behavior change through guidance, counselling, prayers and God’s word.
Achievements
  1. Over two hundred children have been fed within the Diocese/Kirinyaga County.
  2. Children have been visited individually and in groups in the streets of Kagumo, Kerugoya, Kutus, Ngurubani, Makutano and Sagana. The purpose of the visit is to identify their problems and needs, thus assuring them of God’s love and that He is able to meet their needs if they learn to trust and obey Him. It is unfortunate that the largest percent of these children are boys. This answers the question, “where is the boy child?” He is in the street.
  3. We have been able to offer both individual and group counselling to those children with life issues.
  4. Children have amended their behavior and there is progress both spiritually and socially.
  5. There is increase in behavior change that has enabled children to cope with life and to interact well with other children in school. We have children both in primary and secondary schools.
  6. In December 2019 we had Christmas celebration in all our six feeding stations and every child appreciated the gifts presented to them including special dish.

Recurrent activities

  1. Pastoral visit to children in the streets
  2. Spiritual Formation
  3. Social Formation
  4. Feeding program
  5. Counselling
Future plans
The coordinator future plan is to network with other dioceses with similar progam in order to learn what they do differently from us.
Will the department remain relevant even at this time of COVID?
We live by faith but not by sight. We are praying for our children without ceasing. The coordinator is using human resource to encourage children that all will be well. We are in captivity for a while and things will be back to normal.
Conclusion:
There is hope for the future and very soon we shall be giving new testimony that we are remnant of corona virus.
