The Bookshop was established way back in 1987 under the old Diocese of Mt. Kenya East as a branch of the then ‘Diocesan bookshop’, Embu, with the aim of providing Christian material for the growth of the church as well as serving humanity in provision of office stationery and learning materials.
After the creation of Kirinyaga Diocese in 1991 the bookshop was elevated to become the Diocesan Bookshop for the new Diocese. In 1993 Kerugoya branch was started. It was during this time that we changed our name from ‘Diocesan’ to ‘By-Faith Bookshop’. This was driven by the fact that the shops were not very strong financially but we had a lot of faith in the Lord that we would continue to grow.
In 2003 the bookshop was separated from communications department and started operating as an independent department that is expected to meet all its obligations and be self sustaining. We are a registered member of the Kenya Booksellers and stationers Association, offering the following quality services at affordable prices:

Activities in the Department
- We have a continuous training and licensing of Sunday school teachers under the provincial program/curriculum of training and licensing of Sunday school teachers. This will go on until all or over 90% of the teachers are trained. Those trained are then licensed by the Bishop at a time that rhymes with his program. They are given a license which is renewable every three years. After three renewals, the teachers will go through another training and receive a new certificate
- Annual Diocesan Children’s day every last Saturday of August. On this day, we gather the all Children together at a central place, they are taught by competent speakers, they have fun and we also collect money for the running of the department
- Training and commissioning of Brigade officers as well as enrollment of Children every December.
- Annual Brigade celebrations at the archdeaconry levels to mark the Boys’ Brigade day. The activities for the day are always recommended and organized by the Diocesan Sunday school/Brigade committee
