The 21stCentury Church is and must be engaged in proactive and deliberate ways of doing mission. The church should do some investments to broaden the base for generating resources for doing mission. This has been a clarion call of the Diocesan Bishop since he took over the See 7 years ago. In this regard therefore, a vision to start a project at Kerugoya Cathedral was born by the Bishop. In its early form, the Diocese was to partner with Cathedral in starting this project. Several meetings were held in the year 2013 and 2014 between the team from the Diocese and representatives from the Cathedral. However, the discussions were slowed by huge number of figures for basement and other logistics. However, this didn’t deter the Diocese in following the vision of the Bishop. A new Resolve
A renewed energy was consolidated after a thorough consultation and discussion and the vision was revived in the year 2017, and 2018. A team of experts was tasked to do a design and the concept was drawn. The first drawing had 10 floors without a basement and a tourism floor and a Pent House on top. The task force that was tasked with the project, namely the Development Committee held a series of meetings in discussing the project and checking its finer details like the need for more parking, lightings, going green, alternative use of cheap and modern materials, cons and pros of swimming pool on top, Pent House, tourism spot on top and many more.
The task force of the Construction Committee reviewed the drawings in the year 2018 and resolved to do away with the Swimming pool because of the cost implications and other logistics. They also reviewed the concept of the Pent House and urged the Architect to use the ‘Going Green’ Concept and provide for more parking spaces.
The Bishop ensured that everybody was onboard. Christians were synthesized on the project and the Diocesan Bishop went around to all Archdeaconaries in the late 2017 and early 2018 meeting with all the Church committees and leaders for them to embrace the project. True to the believe, the Clergy and Christians were charged and enthusiastic in pursuing the vision. This was evident when the Clergy and Christians were able to raise an amount of 21 Million on 4thMarch 2018 towards the starting of the new project. (And we thank the ADS Mt Kenya East for initiating the Thanksgiving Day).

The construction will be done in 3 Phases. Phase 1, 2, and 3. The project cost is projected to cost about 800 Million. We don’t have all this money but we have God and Faith. “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘move from here to there,’ and it will move’. Nothing will be impossible for you. (Matthew 17:20, NIV). Andwe are driven by the principal
“Think big, start small and start now”.
