THREE BUILDERS AND ONE STONE
Text: 1 Peter 2:1–10
The writer of First Peter begins not with a command, but with an invitation of grace:
“Come to Him, the Living Stone…” (1 Peter 2:4)
This is not about physical structures. It is about people.
We are being built into a spiritual house—a dwelling place where God receives acceptable sacrifices.
So as we confirm and dedicate this church today, we must understand a foundational truth:
The Church is not the building—you are the building.
THE ONE STONE: JESUS CHRIST
At the center of everything is the Rock—Jesus Christ.
“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.”
Without this Stone, nothing stands.
With this Stone, everything finds alignment, strength, and purpose.
He is:
- The foundation of faith
- The measure of truth
- The stability of the Church
THE THREE TYPES OF BUILDERS
1. THE BELIEVING BUILDERS (LIVING STONES)
“You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house…” (v5)
These are those who:
- Come to Christ willingly
- Submit to His shaping
- Allow God to align and prepare them
Key truth:
Building in God’s kingdom is not always comfortable.
God will:
- Cut away what is unnecessary
- Shape what is rough
- Align what is crooked
Sometimes it is painful—but it is purposeful.
You may feel pressed by life, but God is positioning you.
No one is useless in God’s house.
Every believer has a place.
2. THE REJECTING BUILDERS
“They stumble because they disobey the message…” (v8)
These are also builders—but they reject the cornerstone.
They:
- Ignore Christ
- Build on pride or self-reliance
- Choose culture or opinion over God’s truth
Result:
- They stumble
- They fall
- Their structures collapse
You cannot reject the foundation and expect stability.
3. THE CHOSEN STONE (JESUS CHRIST)
“A chosen and precious cornerstone…” (v6)
Jesus is:
- Chosen by God
- Precious beyond measure
- The only sure foundation
The question today is simple:
👉 Are you building on Christ?
👉 Or are you rejecting Him?
OUR IDENTITY IN CHRIST (v9–10)
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation…”
In Christ, you are:
- Chosen – God intentionally selected you
- Royal Priesthood – You carry spiritual authority and access
- Holy Nation – Set apart for God’s purpose
Transformation (v10)
“Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God…”
- Once lost → now found
- Once without mercy → now shown mercy
- Once wandering → now established
You are not a visitor in God’s house.
You are a son and daughter.
THE ARK PRINCIPLE (NOAH)
In Noah’s day:
- Outside the ark = destruction
- Inside the ark = preservation
Today:
👉 Christ is the Ark
👉 The Church is the place of covering
Remaining in Christ brings:
- Protection
- Stability
- Salvation
FINAL CALL
God is still building His house.
The cornerstone is already laid—Jesus Christ.
Now the question is:
👉 Will you be a living stone?
👉 Or a stumbling builder?
CONCLUSION
God is able to transform lives:
- From rejection → acceptance
- From wandering → establishment
- From emptiness → purpose
If you accept the Cornerstone—Jesus Christ—you become part of God’s living temple.
Closing Charge
As we dedicate this church today:
- Let Christ remain the foundation
- Let believers remain aligned stones
- Let this house carry the presence of God
“Come to Him… the Living Stone.”
